The EPBD in non-residential buildings: what the German building modernisation act means for companies and municipalities with their own building stock.

We took part in the 7th Symposium Zukunft Bauen in Stuttgart. It was organised by Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart and IBA 2027, together with Immobilienwirtschaft Stuttgart and GROUNDBREAKERS.
The topic: the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) in non-residential buildings. With the German building modernisation act (Gebäudemodernisierungsgesetz), its requirements become German law. For companies and municipalities with their own building stock, this means new requirements for the modernisation and operation of their buildings.
Keynotes by Prof. Dr. Martin Pehnt (ifeu) and Prof. Thomas Auer (TUM/Transsolar) put the requirements into context. Practical input came from DGNB, aedifion, Drees & Sommer and startups from the GROUNDBREAKERS network, among others.
A central topic for us: the EPBD is also the basis for the Smart Readiness Indicator. Anyone who assesses their building stock based on data now can plan modernisation in a targeted and economical way. This is exactly where BAIOSS helps.
